Who Am I

Hello! Nice to meet you here :)

I am Ruban, a PhD student in the ECE department of UT Austin, advised by Prof. Hyeji Kim. I earned my Bachelors and Masters in Electrical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras. My research interests broadly include Machine learning, Information theory, Signal processing and Wireless communications.

My current research is in the field of Artificial reasoning. I am focused on reasoning in LLMs and the different paradigms and metrics that have been proposed in the literature to improve Chain-of-Thought reasoning. In particular, I am researching different test-time inference methods such as Self-consistency and Self-certainty and how they improve the reasoning performance of Chain-of-Thought models. I am also exploring the topic of Multimodal reasoning, in particular, reasoning-aided Text-to-Image (T2I) generation.

Before joining UT Austin, I worked in Texas Instruments (India) as a Systems engineer. My work primarily consisted of testing and validation of signal processing algorithms on MATLAB and writing firmware codes in C. In IIT Madras, I primarily focused on building my expertise in the field of signal processing and communications. For my master’s thesis, I worked on building a deep image generative model from scratch with the design heavily inspired from classical coding theory and the celebrated stable diffusion model architecture.
